Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' success in unblocking relations with North Macedonia and clinching the Prespes accord showed statesmanship, the head of the German Parliament Wolfgang Schaeuble said in an article in newspaper Die Zeit, published on Wednesday.

Just a few hours before the Eurogroup, the German Minister of Finance Dr. Schaeuble made a statement saying that there will not be an agreement tonight, as in this meeting there will be an assessment of the progress so far.

“Europe is not jeopardized by Greece, but by the growing economic selfishness among member states,” said German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Sigmar Gabriel speaking at the Federal Parliament on the 2016 budget, while he warned that “if we do not overcome this selfishness, we will no longer be able to convince people about the European idea”.

This time he feets vindicated as last weekend, Germany proved what he has been criticized for saying all along – Dr. Schaeuble has a plan for Europe that is just as sinister and dark as those of the Third Reich.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaueble has to support or oppose Greek plans to exit the country's bailout at the end of the year, focusing instead on the country's need to continue reforming.

Germany's finance minister said Wednesday he did not expect Athens to stray from its economic plan to tackle the country's huge debts despite a change of finance minister.

Wolfgang Schaeuble told reporters in Berlin that he didn't yet know Yannis Stournaras' successor but he did not foresee changes in policy after this week's Greek cabinet reshuffle.
