Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu traveled to Syria on March 19 where he handed a message from President Vladimir Putin to Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, the defense ministry said.

Russia's defence minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday said the country must develop new types of missile systems in the next two years after Washington and Moscow ripped up a key arms control treaty, reports AFP. 

Russia remains a strategic partner of Greece, according to Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who met on Monday in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu.

Greece and Russia's defense ministers discussed Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' planned official visit to the country on December 7 and security in the Mediteranmean, the Middle East and the Balkans during a meeting in Moscow, the ministry said.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's military forces in the country's east were put on high alert Monday ahead of massive war games that also involve China and Mongolia, the largest show of power in nearly 40 years, the Russian defense minister said.

Speaking after his meeting with Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu, Vulin said that negotiations had started to acquire new armaments from the Russian Federation: four Mi-17 transport helicopters, and four Mi-35 attack helicopters.

Vulin is on an official visit to Russia, during which he will participate in the Moscow Conference on International Security.

The Russian Ministry of Defense is considering banning the use of "modern means of cellular communication" at all levels in the armed forces, including in military units and governing structures, reports Dnevnik. 

Qatar has been negotiating with Russia to buy Russian C-400 missile systems, said the Qatari ambassador to Moscow, the news agencies said. "The answer to this is yes," Fahad bin Mohammed Al Atia said in an interview that Qatar intends to buy C-400 missile systems.
