Ankara canvasses public opinion on new highway project connecting Istanbul to Aegean region

The Turkish government has started to canvass  public opinion regarding a major new highway project connecting Istanbul to the northern Aegean region.

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said yesterday that the foundation of the multibillion project will be laid on March 18, 2017, the anniversary of the 102nd anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory during World War I. 

Cosmetic products popular in ancient times

Archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Antandros in the northwestern province of Balıkesir, where work has been continuing for 16 years, have revealed a number of ancient shops which sold cosmetics, indicating that women have been interested in such products for millennia. 

The adjacent shops were unearthed as the works neared an end in the ancient city. 

Ferry services between Lesbos and İzmir to start in May 2017

Catamarans owned by the ferry company of Turkey's İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will start regular trips between the Alsancak Port and the Greek island of Lesbos in a bid to boost tourism in the Aegean Sea, Northern Aegean Islands Economic Development Agency (EOAEN) head Thrasos Kalogridis has said.
