BELGRADE - The Serbian parliament has adopted the law on financing agricultural production, which allows the establishment of pre-harvest financing and introduces the use of future crops as a form of loan security.

The law was adopted on Tuesday and will enter into force on March 1 next year.

Bulgaria loses nearly EUR 90 M under the Rural Development Program for the past programming period due to the poor performance of the State Fund Agriculture, according to Deputy Agriculture Minister Vasil Grudev.

BELGRADE - Representatives of the Spanish association of agricultural producers from Seville are interested in investing in the Serbian agriculture, the ministry of agriculture and environmental protection has said.

The price of fruits in Bulgaria could go up by 40% in July, as a result of the torrential rains and floods that hit much of the country, experts warn.

“It is natural for me to compensate my low yields with higher prices”, one fruit grower commented.

There is also lingering danger of crop diseases from the high moisture and floods.

The tomato producers in Bulgaria plan large scale protests as they fear they will be unable to sell their produce. 

According to the national channel bTV, the producers in Petrich, one of the major tomato growing regions, are planning to throw their tomatoes on the road, because of the cheap imports from abroad. 

Hundreds of people working for Irrigation Systems are set to begin demonstrations across Bulgaria. 

They are protesting over the lack of payment at the state entity, which is on the brink of declaring bankruptcy, Bulgarian website Dariknews.bg has reported.
