Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and the members of her cabinet will be convening today in a solemn meeting to celebrate the National Day of Romania in the centennial year of the Greater Union of December 1, 1918, in Alba Iulia on Thursday.

The meeting will take place from 10:30hrs, EET, at the Alba Carolina Fortress, the Union Hall, according to the PM's schedule.

The National History Museum of Romania will launch this week the "Virtual Museum of the Union", a digital project dedicated to the Centennial of the Greater Union, featuring images, documents and other original testimonies from public and private collections, related to the event occurred 100 years ago.

More than 100,000 people are expected to gather at Alba Iulia - the flagship city of the Greater Union where the union of Transylvania and Romania was proclaimed 100 years ago - for the December 1 celebrations, city mayor Mircea Hava announced this week, as he presented the official program of the events to take place on Romania National Day.

President Klaus announced on Thursday that he will take part in the festivities of the National Day in Bucharest and in Alba Iulia.

President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday released a message calling for unity among the Romanians before participating in the bicycle march "Pedalam pentru Romania" (Pedalling for Romania) dedicated to the centennial of Romania's December 1, 1918 Greater Union.

Prior to leaving Palatului Square, Iohannis said that it would be good if unity is reached in the centennial year.
