A retiree in eastern Turkey has devoted his life to stray animals, caring for 50 dogs and cats after losing his dog to cancer.
Hüseyin Turan, 76, who used to spend winters in Istanbul and summers in Nimri village in Elazığ, permanently settled in the village after he decided to honor the memory of his dog, Sunny.
Turkey aims to preserve sturgeon population
The Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) in the northwestern Black Sea province of Trabzon wants to preserve the population of sturgeons with a project for developing breeding techniques.
While the sturgeon tadpoles care center is in SUMAE, the breeding center is located in special pools in the Çamlıhemşin district of another Black Sea province, Rize.

There is an alarming decrease in the stock of bluefish in the inland seas due to overfishing and pollution, said Saadet Karakulak, an academic from Istanbul University's Faculty of Aquatic Sciences.

Cats spend their time, eat and play in the cat town, located in an animal care center for helpless and unattended cats.
As the town's number of cats has increased to 150, works are continuing to double the town's size.

Cats, chickens killed with toxic ham in Antalya
Some 17 cats and three chicken were poisoned to death in the southern province of Antalya's Kemer district on Dec. 21, causing fury and unrest among animal lovers who have urged officials to find the ones responsible for the animal killings.
"We want the security forces to find these people who killed them," said Mihrican Honamlı, the head of the Women Platform of Kemer.
