SARAJEVO -- As part of events marking 100 years since the outbreak of WW1, a monument to Gavrilo Princip has been unveiled in the newly built city park in East Sarajevo.
The statue was cast in bronze and is two meters tall, the work of Belgrade-based sculptor Zoran Kuzmanović.

SARAJEVO -- The shot that echoed in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, was not a shot fired at freedom, but at the occupiers, Gavrilo Princip's nephew, Nikola Princip, has said.
He spoke ahead of the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

Around 150 cyclists competed in the Sarajevo International Race for Peace on Sunday, riding a 140-kilometre route around through the centre and the suburbs of the Bosnian capital with the goal of promoting peace on the anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War.

Sarajevo Gears up For World War I Centenary
Marking a start to commemorations of the outbreak of World War One, the Museum of Sarajevo on June 9 unveiled the images of both Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his Serbian assassin, Gavrilo Princip.
Princip's murder of the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary in Sarajevo in 1914 is widely seen as the key event that triggered the war.
