Eight of 11 anarchists in custody for police attack

Eight of the 11 people arrested in connection with an assault on a riot police unit in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia last week were remanded in custody Tuesday.

The eight, all members of anarchist groups, are alleged to have been part of a group of about 20 people who hurled firebombs and stones at police in the early hours of Friday.

Three suspects in Boutaris attack to appear before court

Three out of the four suspects detained in connection with a mob attack on Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris last weekend will appear before a misdemeanors court Wednesday to face charges of grievous bodily harm, aggravated damages and breaching the peace.

The fourth accused, a 17-year-old man, will be tried by a court for minors on October 4.

Man from Rhodes arrested for sexually harassing children

A 59-year-old man from Rhodes man is facing charges of sexual harassment against minors. The accused was arrested by officers of the vice division after they had received complaints. After his arrest, police pressed charges related to sexual assault against minors, breach of decency, insult and threats of bodily harm. The man will appear before the Rhodes prosecutor later today.

Student, 25, to face prosecutor over attack on university professor

A 25-year-old psychology student who was arrested on Wednesday for an attack on Panteio University professor Angelos Syrigos was to face a prosecutor on charges of assault and causing grievous bodily harm on Thursday.

Another two people who were detained in connection with the assault were released after no incriminating evidence was found against them.

Violent Cretan faces prosecutor

A 56-year-old Cretan man faced a prosecutor Thursday after allegedly assaulting a 40-year-old Bulgarian woman in the cafe where she works in the port of Iraklio with an iron bar and later attacking her son in her home.

A police search on the suspect's home turned up a hunting rifle, a bow and 10 arrows and four small swords.
