China told the US that it has tightened security at its border with North Korea, according to a top US diplomat. The official said the US has seen a "shift in emphasis" from China, amid Washington's calls to put pressure on Pyongyang.

North Korea fired an unidentified projectile on May 21, South Korea's military said, a week after it test-fired a mid-long range missile which experts said marked an advancement in the reclusive state's missile program.

North Korea said on May 15 it had successfully conducted a mid- to-long-range missile test and would continue such launches "any time, any place", defying U.N. Security Council resolutions and warnings from the United States.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile on May 14 in defiance of  calls to rein in its weapons program, days after a new leader in its old rival South Korea came to power pledging to engage it in dialogue.

North Korea on Sunday test-launched a ballistic missile that flew for half an hour and reached an unusually high altitude before landing in the Sea of Japan, the South Korean, Japanese and U.S. militaries said.

North Korea test-launched a missile of an unknown type early on Sunday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported citing the country's military.

"The North launched the missile from the country's northwest city of Kusong," the South Korean agency reported, citing the Joint Chief of Staff.

Amid escalating tensions, North Korea has warned America of a "super-mighty pre-emptive strike" that would reduce it "to ashes". Donald Trump, the Commander-in-Chief of the world's most powerful military, recently called North Korea the "greatest immediate threat" to the US.

Turkey's defense company ASELSAN has started developing an electromagnetic ball system (EMT) technology, which is also dubbed "Railgun," reaching a speed six times faster than sound in its first test-fires, daily Dünya has said in a report. 

North Korea fired four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan's northwest on March 6, angering South Korea and Japan, days after it promised retaliation over U.S.-South Korea military drills it sees as a preparation for war.

North Korea on Sept. 5 fired three suspected medium-range Rodong missiles that travelled about 1,000 kilometers and landed near Japan in an apparent show of force timed to the G-20 economic summit in China, Seoul officials said.
