Bulgarian President Reiterates Defense Commitments in Warsaw

Bulgaria must confirm its commitment towards NATO for increasing defense spending to 2% of its GDP, said President Rosen Plevneliev.

Plevneliev took part in the meeting of Central and Eastern European leaders and US President Barack Obama in Warsaw, as part of the 25th anniversary of Poland's first post-Communist democratic elections.

Obama Tells Merkel to be Prepared for Further Sanctions

US President Barack Obama has urged the European Union to be prepared for new sanctions against Russia.

In a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Obama "underscored the need for the United States, European Union, and other global partners to be prepared to meet further Russian escalation with additional sanctions", the White House revealed.

Obama Urges Russia To Withdraw Troops From Ukraine Border

US President Barack Obama has urged Russia to "move back its troops" on Ukraine's border and lower tensions.

Russia is believed to have massed a force of several thousand troops close to Ukraine's eastern frontier. According to some estimates there are around 30 000 troops, while some US generals believe the number can be as high as 80 000.
