Two West Nile virus cases confirmed in Greece

Two people in Greece have contracted the West Nile virus, which is carried by infected mosquitoes, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) said on Wednesday in its weekly epidemiological data posted on its website.

The two patients who were diagnosed with the virus are the first cases recorded in 2018 and are in stable condition, the disease control agency said.

WHO calls for special meeting over Zika virus

The World Health Organization (WHO) readies to meet at a special meeting on Feb. 1 to decide if they should declare an international health emergency for the Zika virus, which is "spreading explosively" in the Americas and could see up to 4 million cases over the next year, international health officials said Jan. 28. 

Tests for cholera are negative

The Dutch man, aged 70, who was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of acute gastroenteritis was tested for cholera.

Up to now, the tests conducted for cholera disease are negative.

The tourist is still hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Athens.

New Ebola trial vaccine 'safe': researchers

The latest in a string of candidate vaccines against the deadly Ebola virus was proven safe in an early trial in healthy adults in China, its developers said Wednesday.
      
But while it triggered an antibody response in test subjects, further trials must be held to establish whether the drug actually protects against Ebola, they said.
