A 22-year-old woman who allegedly told the police that she left her newly-born infant in the light shaft of the Athens apartment block where she lives shortly after living birth was receiving treatment for shock in the capital's Alexandra hospital on Wednesday.

In the US state of Tennessee, the couple, Benjamin and Tina Gibson, became parents of an unusual child.

A 37-year-old woman was being treated for post-natal complications at Thessaloniki's Ippokrateio Hospital on Friday under police guard after she allegedly threw her dead baby in a garbage dumpster.

According to sources, the woman went to the hospital on Thursday night in extreme pain and a medical examination indicated that she had given birth very recently.
