Turkish auto sales jump 38 percent in July

Combined sales of cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 38 percent in July over the previous year, the Automotive Distributors Association said on Aug. 5.

Car sales numbered 64,218, and light commercial vehicles were at 19,618, an increase of more than 47 percent. Total Turkish sales were 83,836 in July, according to the report from the association.

Zipcar, a U.S.-based car rental company, has entered the Turkish market in cooperation with a prominent auto firm to provide car-sharing services to Istanbulites.

Speaking at a press conference, Massimo Marsili, the firm's head of European operations, said on April 2 Zipcar was excited to enter the Turkish market.
