In connection with World Heart Day, specialists from the Military Medical Academy (MMA) will screen patients with blood pressure problems for free.

More than 60% of our country's mortality is due to cardiovascular diseases. One of the most common is atherosclerosis, Prof. Lachezar Grozdinski explained in "Bulgaria Morning".

Atherosclerosis is a disease that affects the inner layer of the large and medium arteries of the body. The walls of the blood vessels become thicker and firmer.

The average person living in Europe loses two years of their life to the health effects of breathing polluted air, according to a report published in the European Heart Journal on March 12, quoted by the World Economic Forum. 

Today is the World Hypertension Day. It was first inaugurated in May 2005 and has become an annual event ever since.  Cardiovascular diseases remain the main cause of death in the world, and in Bulgaria they occupy the first place as a cause of death and disability.

Cardiovascular diseases are leading to mortality in Bulgaria. Nearly 153,000 are people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, most of them over retirement age.

Bucharest, May 4 /Agerpres/ - Cardiovascular diseases continue to be the main health problem in Romania, that is the alarm signal sounded by the Ministry of Health on the occasion of the National Heart Day. In this context, the Ministry of Health announces a series of projects that are planned this year to support people suffering from this disease.

In Zaimov Park in Sofia will be held free screening for cardiovascular risk factors, reported NOVA TV.
