Macron allies seek to find majority after France poll blow
Allies of French President Emmanuel Macron started working on June 20 to cobble together a working parliamentary majority to salvage his second term, after his alliance crumbled in the election against surges from the left and far-right.

French voters are going to the polls in the final round of key parliamentary elections that will demonstrate how much legroom President Emmanuel Macron's party will be given to implement his ambitious domestic agenda.
In last week's first vote, the left, under firebrand Jean-Luc Melenchon, made a surprisingly strong showing, sending jitters through Macron's allies.
Macron's majority endangered?
The election results so far show that the left-wing coalition led by Jean-Luc Mlenchon has a slight advantage in the number of votes won in the first round of parliamentary elections.

It is hard to foresee the Turkey of 2023
I will begin this piece with an honest confession: As a Turkey observer, I failed in the first decade of this century to foresee the second decade. By the year 2010, I was very optimistic about "New Turkey," believing it was on the road to becoming a liberal democracy. By 2016, however, we are, at best, a very illiberal democracy.
