An additional 15.5 percent special consumption tax has been added for alcoholic beverages early in July, automatically in line with Turkey's producer price index in the first half of the year.

The government has slashed property taxes ahead of the snap June 24 elections, with a new legal package also including a higher income tax exemption for female workers whose children go to a day care center and changes to the special consumption tax for a group of alcoholic beverages.

White goods sales surged 33 percent across Turkey in the first five months of the year due to significant tax cuts in the sector.

According to data from the Turkish White Goods Industrialists Association (TÜRKBESD), Turkey's white goods exports also saw a 4 percent increase in the January-May period, increasing to 7.69 million units, Reuters reported on June 20. 

The Turkish government has extended tax cuts on home appliances and furniture for a further five-month period in a bid to stir sluggish consumer demand, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım stated on April 10. 

The government has received its first major warning that the budget is in trouble in the form of indirect tax revenues for the first couple of months this year, and this at a time when its negotiations with the country's creditors are in full swing.

With a cabinet recent decision, there will be no Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) on appliances, yachts, boats, cruise and excursion ships and no stamp tax on real estate.

A Turkish parliamentary commission has approved a law proposal that stipulates a 5 percent cut in taxes for corporate taxpayers who pay on regular basis and on time. 

According to the proposal, which was accepted late on Feb. 15, all corporate taxpayers will pay 5 percent lower than the calculated taxes if they meet a number of conditions, Reuters has reported. 

Tsipouro and raki producers risk losing their favorable tax status if Greece loses its battle at the European Court of Justice, following a referral on Wednesday by the European Commission.

The Turkish government has cut special consumption taxes on a number of electronic home appliances and has extended value-added tax (VAT) cuts on property acquisitions, in a bid to revive domestic demand ahead of a key constitutional referendum, which is expected to be held in April. 

Turkey has raised its special consumption tax on gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and some mineral oils, while it has cut value added tax on home sales, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette on Sept. 8.
