Open Kitchen back in town
The new season of Ljubljana's hugely popular outdoor food market known as Open Kitchen starts on 17 March, featuring more than 50 stalls serving both traditional Slovenian cuisine and foreign culinary delights.
For the 11th year running, visitors will be able to treat their taste buds in Pogačar Square next to Ljubljana's central market every Friday between 10am and 9pm.

Couple jailed in Spain over 1.6-mn euro wine heist
A Spanish court on Monday jailed a couple for stealing 45 bottles of wine worth over 1.6 million euros from a hotel restaurant in what police called a "meticulously planned" theft.
A bottle of Chateau D'Yquem 1806 worth 350,000 euros was among the wines stolen from the Atrio hotel in Caceres in southwest Spain in October 2021 in the heist which made global headlines.

1.4 mln preschool students to benefit from free meals
As of Feb. 6, when the semester break ends, 1.4 million preschool students will benefit from free meals, and then this number will gradually increase to 5 million.
Denmark wins global culinary showdown
Denmark's ode to the humble squash helped propel the Nordic nation to victory on Jan. 23 in prestigious culinary competition the Bocuse d'or, beating host and defending champion France.
With foghorns and firecrackers, a passionate Danish crowd cheered on chef Brian Mark Hansen, 41, as he steered Denmark to its third victory in the gastronomy equivalent of the World Cup.

Nova Gorica company makes its largest industrial baking oven
Nova Gorica – Gostol Gopan, a Nova Gorica-based company that makes industrial ovens and equipment for large bakeries, has announced that it shipped the largest thermal oil baking oven they have ever built. It was sold to one of Europe’s largest bakeries from Hungary. This thermal oil baking oven made by Gostol Gopan is 3 metres wide, 17 metres long and 5.3 metres high.
Wine production down this year, but quality better
Ljubljana – Slovenia will produce 10-15% less wine than last year, mostly due to the Dolenjska wine region being strongly affected by the spring frost. However, wine growers around the country report it has been an above-average year in terms of quality.
