BBC television unveils first female 'Doctor Who'
British actress Jodie Whittaker was unveiled on July 16 as the first woman to play "Doctor Who" in the cult BBC science fiction series.
The 35-year-old, who starred in the British award-winning drama "Broadchurch," will take over from Scottish actor Peter Capaldi later this year as 13th incarnation of the Time Lord.

Crete doctor convicted for infant's death
A doctor on the island of Crete who was blamed for the death of an 11-month-old infant was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.
The sentence was suspended following the doctor's appeal.
The infant died in November 2012 due to complications that arose during an operation at the University Hospital of Crete.

Thessaloniki surgeon gets more time to be questioned about murder
A magistrate in Thessaloniki Monday gave a 38-year-old doctor until Tuesday to prepare himself for questioning in connection to the alleged murder of a 36-year-old woman.
The surgeon denies any involvement and, via his lawyer, said he wants to wait for the postmortem to establish the exact cause of death. The woman's body was found in a forest in Halkidiki last week.

Yemen national hangs himself in Aliens Bureau cell
A 23-year-old man from Yemen hung himself while in custody in Thessaloniki, it was revealed on Saturday.
Authorities said that the unnamed man used his T-shirt to hang himself in a cell at the northern city?s Aliens Bureau.
Police said that the man appeared to be suffering from mental problems and had been examined by a doctor, who recommended that he be given drugs.
