Police thwarted as anarchists target US envoy’s home

A special plan that the Greek Police (ELAS) said it has for guarding the US Embassy and the adjacent residence of Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt did not stop members of the anarchist group Rouvikonas from vandalizing his home.
The attack, which occurred at around 4 a.m., involved 10 people wearing crash helmets, who lobbed bottles of paint at the walls of the ambassador's residence.

Police to probe botched raid in Exarchia

The Greek Police's (ELAS) security division has launched an investigation into last week's fiasco involving an assault by a crowd of masked individuals on Coast Guard officers in the anarchist stronghold of Exarchia, amid indications that ELAS had not been adequately briefed about the officers' drug-related raid in the area.

Suspected pickpockets seen behind 14 railway station thefts

The Greek Police (ELAS) on Tuesday announced a successful crackdown on a gang of pickpockets who were active at the Larissis railway station in central Athens.

According to ELAS, three suspected gang members, all foreign nationals, were arrested at the station in operations conducted last Friday and Saturday.

Airlines to provide ELAS with passenger data for crackdown on terrorism, crime

Airline companies operating in Greece will be obliged to provide the Greek Police (ELAS) with details of all passengers traveling in and out of the country for reasons of national security, according to draft legislation that has been prepared by the Citizens' Protection Ministry.
