Croatia Unveils Raft of Measures to Help Poor

Months before the next parliamentary elections at the end of the year, Croatia's centre-left government on Thursday unveiled a new package of measures aimed at helping the poor.

Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak announced that a category of "vulnerable customers" will be created in terms of the energy system who will be protected from having their heating and lights cut off.

Bulgaria's PM Lashes Out at Business Unions over Power Price Demands

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has criticized employers' organizations over their demand that a hike of electricity prices for industrial consumers be postponed.

Power prices for industries are set to rise by 15-20% from August, and the national energy regulator KEVR is to officially confirm the move on Friday, July 31.

Bulgarian Government to Establish Energy Security Council

The Bulgarian government will establish an energy security council, which will coordinate the national policy in the energy sector and define the Bulgarian priorities within the framework of the European Energy Union.

The decision was taken at the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the government's press service informs.

Bulgarian Energy Commission Postpones Price Increase Decision

The ?nergy and Water Regulatory Commission held a closed sitting Monday and took the decision of extending the term at which electricity prices would remain intact.

They will mark an slight increase, however, starting August. The law amendment concerning energy distribution in Bulgaria has been voted late last week.

Bulgarian MPs Pave Way for 1-Month Power Price Freeze

Energy Act amendments allowing Bulgaria's Commission for Energy and Eater Regulation (KEVR) to extend by up to a month the ongoing regulatory period ending on June 30 have passed first and second reading in parliament.

On Tuesday the proposal was adopted by the parliamentary committee tasked with oversight of the energy watchdog.
