Man dies in hospital raising number of blaze victims to 90

An 85-year-old man who was being treated in the intensive care unit of Athens's Evangelismos hospital for burns suffered in July's deadly blaze passed away on Sunday.

His death raises the number of confirmed fatalities to 90. Earlier it was announced that a 55-year-old woman died in Evangelismos on Saturday night.

Eighty-five wildfire victims identified, one unaccounted for

Greece's fire service said on Wednesday it had identified 85 victims of the wildfire that ravaged the east coast of Attica last week, which left one person still unaccounted for.

The Ministry of Health said earlier that one burn victim was released from Evangelismos hospital on Wednesday and another left the hospital's intensive care unit.

Death toll from deadly Attica fires rises to 85

The death toll from the deadly blaze that ravaged the coastal town of Mati in east Attica on Monday rose to 85 on Thursday, after a 73-year-old man who was in intensive care in Athens' Evangelismos hospital died and two more bodies were discovered by rescue crews.

Earlier in the day, a fire service spokesperson told journalists the number had risen to 82.
