Syrian arrested on Greek border investigated for jihadist ties

A 28-year-old Syrian national who was arrested at the Kipoi border crossing in Evros over the weekend after police found more than 95,000 rounds of ammunition hidden in special compartments in his car, is being detained in Alexandroupoli as police and intelligence officials suspect he might have jihadist connections, Kathimerini understands.

Greece to question Syrian over Turkey-bound bullet haul

Greek investigators were to question May 25 a Syrian caught trying to sneak tens of thousands of bullets into Turkey, a police source said.    

The 28-year-old man was detained over the weekend at the Kipi customs post in Evros, the northernmost part of Greece, after police foud parcels of bullets concealed in special caches in his car.    

Agricultural produce destroyed in Evros, Serres due to flooding

About 4,000 hectares of agricultural produce has been destroyed by floods in the regional units of Evros and Serres over the last few days.

Local authorities on Monday said that a preliminary estimate of the damage reached 130 million euros, and asked the European Union?s Solidarity Fund to provide financial assistance.
