University students in Turkey’s east ‘colored’ in festival

Within the scope of the "Fırat Fest," a 20-day spring festival organized by Fırat University, a "Color Festival" was held in the eastern province of Elazığ for the first time.

Some 5,000 university students participated in the "Color Festival," held in a social complex by the Lake Hazar and threw powdered paint at each other.

Rowing on Bosphorus latest popular trend

Rowing in Istanbul's Golden Horn has become the new sports trend in Turkey's biggest metropolis, with a number of people willing to join an outdoor activity rather than staying indoors following the coronavirus pandemic.

"The growth rate of this sport has increased by five times through the pandemic," Fırat Fırat, a rowing instructor at Haliç Rowing Club, said on April 24.

Medical student studies at library he once worked as laborer

A medical student is now studying in the very same university's library where he once worked as a construction worker in 2017 in the eastern province of Elazığ.

"I have gained success after real hard work. I am happy, and this is a fantastic feeling," 23-year-old Hasan Coşkun told the Demirören News Agency.

Turkish celebrities are helping the U.N. get the word out about coronavirus with their legions of followers and new audiences, the World Health Organization said on May 7.
The WHO said that live broadcasts with famous Turkish celebrities such as actress Tuba Büyüküstün are being posted across various social media platforms, including Instagram and YouTube.

Prosecutor demands extension of arrest of suspects in Gülen's media links case

Prosecutors have demanded an extension of the imprisonment of the suspects in the case on the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization's (FETÖ) media leg, in which former pop singer Atilla Taş and writer Gökçe Fırat Çulhaoğlu are imprisoned along with 12 other suspects.

The case continued with its third hearing at the Istanbul 25th Heavy Criminal Court on Aug. 18.

A chief physician of the Fırat University Hospital in the eastern province of Elazığ was killed in an armed attack on May 24, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Professor Muhammed Said Berilgen was assaulted by the owner of a medical firm, identified as Sercan Gök, while he was in his office at 11.45 p.m.
