In a sudden turn of events, the parliamentary group of GERB has decided to retract its proposed draft law aimed at abolishing indefinite identity cards, as observed on the website of the National Assembly.

On the sidelines of the National Assembly, Boyko Borissov, leader of GERB, asserted that the anticipated rotation within the party will occur but not at any cost. Borissov clarified that the rotation is set to happen under the mandate of GERB-SDS, and he firmly rejected the idea of GERB relinquishing its mandate without strategic considerations.

The power-sharing coalition comprising GERB-SDS and WCC-DB, supported by DPS, has agreed to terminate Bulgaria's exemption from the EU's ban on exporting derivatives from Russian oil by January 1, 2024, and end the exemption for Russian oil imports by March 1, 2024, as shared by Jordan Tzonev, Chair of the parliamentary Budget and Finance Committee.

In a closely contested decision, Momchil Mavrov has secured the position of deputy governor at the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), having been nominated by the GERB-SDS party. The mandate for this role extends until November 30, 2028, following a vote of 103 MPs in favor and 83 against.

In a crucial parliamentary session today, Bulgaria delves into heated discussions about ending the derogation for Russian oil imports. Proposed drafts by GERB-SDS and WCC-DB are at the heart of this debate, aiming to alter the Law on the Control of Implementation of Restrictive Measures amid Russia's actions in Ukraine.

The 21 Sofia districts elected their mayors in the second round of the local elections.

Only "Sredets" and "Triaditsa" chose them in the first round last Sunday.

GERB-SDS will not support the change of the national holiday from March 3 to May 24. This was stated by the leader of the party Boyko Borissov, according to whom "holidays in Bulgaria should not be fought over".

"March 3, May 24, the Unification are extremely bright holidays to become a place for argument, discord or politics," Borissov also said.
