DPS-Backed Mayor Candidate 'Wins' Vote in Bulgaria's Newest Municipality

Nebi Bozov, supported by the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party has claimed victory in the first-ever elections of Sarnitsa, the newest administrative unit in Bulgaria.

Officials have confirmed, warning their data is not yet final, but results are unlikely to change much.

Bulgaria's PM: Ministers Should Not Take Part in Campaign for Local Elections

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov plans to offer all ministers to refrain from participating in the election campaign for the upcoming local elections.

Speaking Sunday in Plovdiv at a national conference of center-right ruling party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), Borisov said that he would stick to the very same behavior pattern that he recommended.

Bulgaria's GERB to Contest Local Elections on Its Own

The executive committee of Bulgaria's main ruling party GERB has decided that the party will compete in the forthcoming local elections on its own.

The chairperson of GERB's parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov announced this on Saturday prior to the party's national council in Plovdiv, private bTV station reports.

Rumyana Bachvarova Gets MPs Approval to Be Next Interior Minister

Lawmakers have voted to approve current Deputy PM Rumyana Bachvarova as the country's next Interior Minister.

This comes after Veselin Vuchkov stepped down last week over his disagreement with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the rest of the cabinet on key reshuffles at his ministry.

Bachvarova will now be both Deputy PM on coalition policy and Interior Minister.

Parliament Committee Approves Glinka Komitov as New Head of State Health Insurance Fund

The Healthcare Commission in Bulgaria's Parliament has approved the nomination of Glinka Komitov for new Chairman of the state-run National Health Insurance Fund NZOK.

The term of office of the current NZOK Chairwoman Rumyana Todorova has expired.
