Bulgaria's Main Ruling Party GERB Proposes Referendum alongside Elections

Bulgaria's main ruling party GERB tabled to parliament amendments to the Referendum Act, which are aimed at facilitating the holding of a referendum with the local elections.

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and GERB expressed their support for the holding of referendum on changes to the electoral system together with the forthcoming local elections in the autumn.

Betina Zhoteva, the spokeswoman for Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry, will be appointed to the Council for Electronic Media (CEM), the Presidency of Bulgaria has said.

Zhoteva was nominated by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, who appoints several members of the media regulator alongside Parliament.

Center-right formation and current member of the government Reformatorski Bloc (RB) stated that it will not support the proposed amendments to the Law regarding the National Security Service (NSO) in the format currently presented.

The announcement was made by RB leader Radan Kanev Wednesday at a conference held at New Bulgarian University in Sofia.

According to the latest opinion poll of Exacta, the first months of the second term of Boyko Borisov as Prime Minister garnered a higher approval rating among Bulgarians than his first tenure.

The negative views on the government's policies continued to prevail over the positive ones, with 54 % of Bulgarians expressing dissatisfaction, while 32 % were content.

Gallup: 40% of Bulgarians Would Not Vote in General Election

According to the latest political and economic index of Gallup International, which was released on Wednesday, 40% of eligible Bulgarians would not vote if parliamentary elections were held now.

The survey revealed no significant changes in the public attitudes compared to March, when the initially positive attitude towards the current minority coalition government started to fade.
