Bulgaria MPs to Hold Urgent Session over Election Rules

Bulgaria's main ruling party GERB is set to propose eleventh-hour amendments to the Electoral Code at an extraordinary Parliament session on Tuesday, party officials have said.

The announcement comes hours after both President Rosen Plevneliev and Ombudsman Maya Manolova confirmed their intention to refer sections of the code to the Constitutional Court.

Bulgarian PM Calls Emergency Meeting To Discuss Coalition Stability

After a surprise visit to Parliament today, PM Borisov has called an emergency meeting at 17:30 hrs to discuss the readiness of the ministers from the coalition partners of GERB to continue to be part of the government.

Besides the ministers, the meeting will be attended by the chairmen of the parliamentary groups of the political forces supporting the Cabinet.

 

Bulgaria to Have Interim Parliament Speaker over Presidential Elections

Dimitar Glavchev, the deputy speaker of Bulgaria's national assembly, will head Parliament ad interim, the incumbent speaker Tsetska Tsacheva has said.

It would be wrong for Tsacheva to attend to her duties as Parliament Speaker over the next month, as a presidential campaign is to begin on Friday and her office would give her unfair advantage to other candidates.
