Ten people have become victim to the cold weather in Poland over the last two days when temperatures fell to -20. Over the weekend, low temperatures will remain.

The entire republican road network in the region of Razgrad is closed for all types of vehicles. There is heavy snowfall in the region, while visibility has been reduced to a few metres, reported the Regional Road Department.

Turkish officials have warned of storms and heavy snowfall across Turkey, including Istanbul, for Jan. 6 as wintry weather continues to hit the country. 

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snow will fall in Istanbul on Jan. 6, with temperatures expected to plunge by up to eight degrees to -5 Celsius and snow expected to continue for three days. 

A serious deterioration in the weather conditions will start from Thursday and it will effect especially Northern Greece and then the rest of the country, just days after the previous wave of bad weather.

The phenomena will reach Crete and chances are that it will be snowing simultaneously in Athens, Thessaloniki, Larisa and probably Patra and Agrinio!

The month of January will be colder than what has been measured in previous years, Bulgarian meteorologists say.

While the first couple of days will be sunny and temperatures will pick up, snowfall will have begun by Thursday and will continue intermittently through Saturday, a National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) official has told private NOVA TV broadcaster.

Heavy snowfall and rains along with cold weather across Turkey paralyzed ordinary life for people while precipitating deadly floods in the southern part of the country and suspending education at many schools in central and northern provinces due to snow.   

Education was suspended in schools in 39 provinces across Turkey on Dec. 14 due to heavy snowfall. In Istanbul, where the year’s first snow began, the governor’s office has yet to make any announcement about a suspension

The Megaro Mousikis metro station in central Athens was briefly shut down Monday after two days of heavy rainfall caused flooding in many parts of the capital, as well as traffic disruptions. A 33-year-old man who was reported missing on Zakynthos was found dead on Sunday, while the island's roads also sustained damage.

Following days of heavy rain in Attica and elsewhere, snowfall is expected in several parts of the country from Monday night, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

Snow is forecast for mountainous parts in the country's north and western Macedonia, EMY said.

The temperature in those areas is expected to drop by between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.

The national weather service (HNMS) on Friday issued an announcement warning of strong downpours and plummeting temperatures, especially in the northern parts of the country, over the next few days.
