Officials warn of storms, heavy snowfall across Turkey

Turkish officials have warned of storms and heavy snowfall across Turkey, including Istanbul, for Jan. 6 as wintry weather continues to hit the country. 

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snow will fall in Istanbul on Jan. 6, with temperatures expected to plunge by up to eight degrees to -5 Celsius and snow expected to continue for three days.

A serious deterioration in the weather conditions will start from Thursday and it will effect especially Northern Greece and then the rest of the country, just days after the previous wave of bad weather.

 

The phenomena will reach Crete and chances are that it will be snowing simultaneously in Athens, Thessaloniki, Larisa and probably Patra and Agrinio!

 

January 'to Be Colder Than Usual' in Bulgaria

The month of January will be colder than what has been measured in previous years, Bulgarian meteorologists say.

While the first couple of days will be sunny and temperatures will pick up, snowfall will have begun by Thursday and will continue intermittently through Saturday, a National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) official has told private NOVA TV broadcaster.

Weather to worsen with snow forecast for much of country

Following days of heavy rain in Attica and elsewhere, snowfall is expected in several parts of the country from Monday night, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

Snow is forecast for mountainous parts in the country's north and western Macedonia, EMY said.

The temperature in those areas is expected to drop by between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.
