The smoke from the burnt earth of Attica that darkened the sky over Athens, and the sound of the rotors of helicopters that flew from fire to fire, do not allow anyone to forget the disaster that befell the country this month.

It was an August that changed everything.

With the death toll from Monday's devastating fire in eastern Attica climbing to at least 85 Thursday and with dozens still missing, authorities appeared intent on convincing people that the disaster was not preventable.

A lucky man was found trapped in his car in Panopoulo village in Ilia of Peloponnese. He was reported missing for five days, since the heavy rainfalls hit Ilia area last week. All the members of his family thought that there was no chance of finding him alive. But 78-year- old Thodoros Patsouris proved that he was not meant to die that way.
