Ministry rejects Turkish claims about Muslim minority as laughable

The Greek Foreign Ministry dismissed accusations by Turkey on Wednesday that Greece is oppressing its Muslim community in Western Thrace as "paradoxical, if not funny." 
"History will forever be the most objective witness to the way in which Turkey has systematically eliminated all minorities in its territory during the 20th century," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Anti-muslim graffiti at minority mosque in Komotini

Vandals attacked the Yeni mosque in Komotini, Greece’s Western Thrace. Islamophobia Watch reports that Greece has seen a rise in attacks on Muslims and Jews in recent years that coincides with the rise of the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn party that entered Greek Parliament in 2012 and is currently the third most popular party.

FUEN conference is proof Greece respects religious freedom

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras said that the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) conference being held in Komotini, northern Greece, is proof that Greece respects religious freedom. He said that all Greek citizens have the right to assemble regardless of religion and he also pointed out that citizens belonging to minority groups are privy to equal rights.
