Nine migrants, including two children, drown off Turkey's Aegean coast

Nine migrants, including two children, died when their boat sank off Turkey's Aegean coast on Feb. 2.

Security forces were informed about migrants on the Seferihisar shore of ?zmir province. Eleven migrants who were waiting on the shore said the fiber boat sank due to the waves.

Ammunition from Syria hits house in Turkey's southeast

Ammunition concluded to have come from close-by Syria in the southeastern Kilis province hit a house early Feb. 2. No casualties have been reported.

The unidentified ammunition hit the wall of Nimet ?lban's house around 3 a.m. Residents living nearby informed security forces of the explosion.

Security forces began examinations to identify the ammunition.

315 migrants captured on Aegean despite latest tragedy

Turkish gendarmerie forces captured some 315 migrants trying to cross to the Greek islands from the northwestern province of Çanakkale, where the latest migrant tragedy saw 39 people, including children, killed off the Ayvac?k district on Jan. 30.

Gendarmerie teams caught 315 migrants of Syrian, Afghan and Moroccan origin during operations throughout the early hours of Feb. 1.  

39, including 5 children, dead as migrant boat sinks off Turkey

At least 39 people, including five children, drowned off Turkey's western coast on Jan. 30, the Turkish Coast Guard said, in the latest tragedy involving migrants in the region.

A patrol was able to save 62 refugees, while one Turkish citizen was detained for his alleged role in organizing the trip.

France to probe allegations of sex abuse by French soldiers in CAR

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has ordered a probe into allegations of sex abuse by French soldiers in the Central African Republic, aides said Jan. 29.

The minister instructed French investigators to pursue the probe "as soon as he became aware of documents issued on Jan. 19 by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights", an aide told AFP.
