Turkish man hosts 7 foreign nationals amid virus spread

After seven travelers from abroad got stuck in Turkey due to coronavirus restrictions, a local came to their rescue and took them into his home.

When six French nationals and a Spaniard found themselves high and dry due to travel restrictions in the Aegean Muğla province, musician Alper Kaya welcomed them to his home, where they all now enjoy playing music or doing yoga.

Court arrests Turkish soldier for calling Atatürk a 'freemason'

An Istanbul court ordered the arrest of a soldier on Aug. 23 on charges of "insulting the legacy of Atatürk" through his social media posts.

The Kumburgaz Gendarmerie Private Training Center Commandship informed the local prosecutor's office about one of its soldiers, identified as specialized sergeant Erdal Kaya, who had allegedly insulted Atatürk via his social media account.

Turkish ministry to support TV series promoting family life

Turkish Family and Social Policies Ministry has announced plans to support TV series that promote family life and which are aimed at children. 

The ministry commenced talks with the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) on the issue and is working to determine the criteria regarding the support, daily Habertürk reported May 23. 

Minister refutes reports on same-sex siblings policy for foster families in Turkey

Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya refuted on May 4 reports that decisions on granting custody of children to foster parents was being affected by the gender of the children.

Controversy had been stirred over reports that local officials in the Aegean province of İzmir were not giving away girls to parents who already have sons. 

Turkish family minister accuses Dutch of 'savagely violating freedom'

Turkish Family Affairs and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya has accused the Netherlands of "savagely" violating her delegation's freedom of expression, assembly and action, during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on March 15, Doğan News Agency has reported. 

Turkey summons Dutch diplomat, urges 'written apology' over barring minister

Turkey has summoned Dutch chargé d'affairs to the Turkish Foreign Ministry for the third time since March 11 and has demanded an official apology after a Turkish minister was barred to meet with Turks living in the Netherlands, as well as a comprehensive probe on security officials staging disproportioned use of force on Turkish demonstrators.
