Instead of shrinking in number, the documents and certificates owners need to submit to utilize their properties - either to rent or sell them - keeps getting bigger, raising more obstacles to an uptick in transactions and, by extension, in state revenues.

Checks have been completed on 70 percent of the degree certificates and other professional qualifications of the 2,280 employees of Attica’s regional authority and four workers have been found to have submitted forged papers, regional governor Rena Dourou said on Wednesday.

The Finance Ministry is unable for the time being to provide a solution to the major problem regarding the freeze in the issuing of tax clearance certificates to property owners.

The state-run company that manages Attica’s buses and trolley buses, OSY, on Tuesday announced the dismissal of another 35 members of staff after an ongoing internal investigation revealed they had secured their jobs by submitting false certificates.

The dismissals bring the number of public transport staff dismissed due to fraudulent applications to 135.
