With Yorgos Lanthimos headed to Los Angeles, where his latest film, "The Favourite," has been nominated for an impressive 10 Oscars, Cine Studio is paying tribute to the Greek filmmaker with screenings of his previous work on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 5 and 6.

Internationally acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos has admitted he had to leave Greece in order to make progress as a filmmaker.

"I moved to England because the way we worked in Greece no longer fulfilled my needs," the 43-year-old filmmaker said in an interview with Germany's Die Welt newspaper published on Thursday.

Vrasidas Karalis holds the Sir Nicholas Laurantos’ Chair in Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies at the University of Sydney.
