A stray mother cat has proudly let photographers capture a photo of her boasting her recently born five kittens in the Mediterranean province of Antalya. Whether lounging in sunlight or scampering into shops in search of food, cats have become an inseparable part of daily life in many Turkish cities.

Van cat gives birth to three kittens through caesarian section

A cat at Yüzüncü Yıl University's (YYU) Van Cat Research and Application Center has given birth to three kittens through caesarian section. 

The center started using the practices of caesarian section for Van cats, with distinctive white fur and two eyes of different color, that cannot give birth naturally for various reasons.

56 smuggled wild species seized, three suspects detained in Istanbul

A total of 56 wild animals which were illegally smuggled into Turkey were seized during a police raid on a farm in Istanbul on April 10, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Police conducted the raid after they were informed about smuggled wild animals at a farm in Istanbul's Çatalca district.

Van cats implanted with chips to maintain bloodline

Experts at a university center in the eastern province of Van are attempting to preserve the famous Van cat breed by implementing a new chip system that will facilitate the tracking and maintenance of the all-white felines.

The Van Cat Track System was initiated last year by the Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYU) Van Cat Research and Application Center to ensure the cats' pedigree.
