Turkish General Staff thanks locals of eastern province for helping wounded soldiers

The Turkish General Staff has extended its gratitude to the locals of Yukar?tütek village in Turkey's eastern province of A?r? for assisting with the evacuation of Turkish soldiers who were wounded during clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the region on April 11.

A statement to German TV channels made on April 9 by Cemil Bay?k, one of military leaders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK), could prove to be the strongest response to imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan?s March 21 call to end the armed campaign launched against Turkey in 1984, in which more than 40,000 people have been killed to date.

Demirta? says HDP is safety valve of peace process

The fate of the Kurdish peace process depends on the election success of his party in the June 7 parliamentary election, Peoples? Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirta? has said, citing his party?s success as a potential facilitator in the laying down of arms by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK).

Turkish prosecutor requests acquittal of Dutch reporter

A Turkish prosecutor on April 8 requested the acquittal of a Dutch journalist specialising in Kurdish issues who was accused of "terrorist propaganda" for the oulawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
 
Frederike Geerdink, who is based in the Kurdish-majority southeastern city of Diyarbakir, had been briefly detained in January after authorities raided her home.
 

HDP will not facilitate presidency: Demirta?
