The first immigrants that Romania has agreed to take in at the EU's request will arrive in November, presidential adviser Leonard Orban, has said, although the government promptly declined to confirm this.

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker on April 30 warned Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban he faces a "fight" if he reintroduces the death penalty in his EU country.

President Klaus Iohannis has received on Monday, at the Cotroceni Palace, German Foreign Affairs minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is on an official visit to Romania.

Ties with Russia and Germany priority - Hungarian PM

BUDAPEST -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that he gives more priority to his country's relations with Russia and Germany than with the United States.

President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, on Henri Coanda international Airport north of Bucharest, before departing to Brussels that he would transmit during the official talks he will have in the Belgian capital city the message that the deepening of the European integration is a priority of his mandate.

EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has warned that more countries could be targeted by infringement procedures over South Stream if they breach the rules.

His comments made at a G-7 press conference follow the Commission's decision earlier this week to launch a procedure against Bulgaria for non-compliance of the South Stream pipeline section with EU legislation.
