A 40-year-old man was killed at the Lixouri landfill in the Ionian island of Cephalonia on Tuesday, in what was reportedly a job-related accident.

The landfill worker appears to have been crushed while trying to repair a malfunction on a machine that is used for sorting different types of trash.

Lawmakers on Monday are to discuss a draft law for breaking up five municipalities into smaller constituencies ahead of local elections in May.

A 56-year-old woman was in critical condition in a Patra hospital on Friday after being shot at five times by her 22-year-old son following an argument at their home in Lixouri on the Ionian island of Cephalonia.

The woman was initially hospitalized on Cephalonia before being transferred by helicopter to Patra after her condition worsened.

A man and a woman have been arrested on Cephalonia for stealing bronze items and other valuables from a cemetery on the Ionian island.

The pair, both 42, were arrested while in possession of 156 kilos of items stolen from Lixouri cemetery.

It is believed they carried out two raids at the cemetery.
