The number of endangered caretta caretta (loggerhead) sea turtles broke a record this year on the 18-kilometer ancient Patara beach in the southern province of Antalya.

Second loggerhead sea turtle found dead in Laconia
A loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) was found dead by officials from the Port Authority of Gytheion at the beach of Chalikia Vatta, in the eastern part of the Mani peninsula, authorities said on Sunday.
This is the second sea turtle of its kind found dead in the region of Laconia, after one was located on Saturday on the island of Elafonisos.

Sea turtle meets tragic end on Nafplio beach
Yet another loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) was found fatally wounded on a beach in Nafplio in southern Greece Thursday. The turtle had received multiple blows to its head and shell and was discovered by passers-by strolling on the beach.

A total of 91,242 baby loggerhead sea turtles (caretta caretta) reached the sea in 2016, the Turkish Environment and Urbanization Ministry has announced.
Another endangered turtle fatally injured
