The Pakistani Community of Greece is reaching out to offer help to individuals affected by the wildfire east of Athens, the president of the association said Wednesday, adding that up to 150 people were ready to join reconstruction efforts in the area.

Inspectorate proposes action against officials over floods
The general inspector for public administration, Maria Papaspyrou, has called for local authority officials to face disciplinary action following last week's serious flooding at Mandra in western Attica, where flash floods last November resulted in the deaths of 20 people.
Bomb threat made against Interior Ministry
Police in Athens have cordoned off the area around the Interior Ministry on Vassilissis Sofias Avenue near central Syntagma Square as experts investigate a bomb threat.
Anonymous callers on Friday morning told staff at Efimerida ton Syntakton newspaper that two bombs had been planted in the ministry and were timed to go off at 10.30 a.m. and at 12 noon.

Mandra flooded again as red tape holds up works
An aerial view of Mandra in western Attica on Wednesday showed local streets submerged in floodwaters following several hours of heavy rainfall. Ioanna Kriekouki, the mayor of Mandra, where 20 people died in flash floods last November, said on Wednesday that there has been no progress in flood-prevention work pledged by the government.

Flooding shuts down Athens-Corinth highway for two hours
The Athens-Corinth national highway was closed off for about two hours at the 29th klm on Wednesday and one abandoned car blocked traffic at the tolls in Elefsina as thunderstorms in the region caused flooding.
Traffic in both directions was restored late in the afternoon.

The mayor of Mandra, the town in western Attica where 20 people died in flash floods last November, said on Wednesday that there has been no progress in flood-prevention work pledged by the government.
Flood aid approved for western Attica
The Attica Regional Authority has announced works to the tune of 6.7 million euros to repair damage wrought by the catastrophic floods in Mandra, western Attica, on November 15 last year.
Regional Governor Rena Dourou and the Mayor of Mandra-Eidyllia Ioanna Kriekouki approved 4.35 million euros to repair damage to existing roads and pavements in Mandra.

Funding of 980,280 euros earmarked for flood-damaged roads
The Municipality of Mandra-Eidyllias in western Attica will receive 980,280 euros toward the repair of its road network that was severely damaged in the deadly floods that struck the region in November last year, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported on Monday.
Police intercept nearly 8 kg of cocaine, arrest trucker
A 51-year-old trucker has been arrested in Mandra, western Attica, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 7.75 kilograms of cocaine into Greece from the Netherlands.
The drugs were found in seven separate packets that were stashed in a storage compartment among spare tires, during a search operation that had been prompted by a tip-off.
Municipal stadium in Mandra also violated zoning code
The locker and pump room of the municipal sports stadium in Mandra, western Attica, was built over a stream illegally, an inspection has found, making it the second municipal property to be found in serious violation of zoning rules.
