Turkey: Infection in military barracks caused by uncooked…turkey meat

An infection that led to 1,046(!) soldiers going to emergency service with complaints of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea on May 23 in the western province of Manisa resulted from being offered uncooked turkey meat, main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Manisa lawmaker Tur Yıldız Biçer said on May 28.

'Salt Bae' casts vote in own style on referendum day

The co-partner of Turkey's global Nusr-et chain of grill houses, Nusret Gökçe, who recently became a social media phenomenon for his meat-cutting and salt-drizzling skills, voted early on April 16 in Istanbul.

Gökçe shared a photo of him casting his vote into the ballot box with his salt-drizzling move. A number of fans left comments under the photo.     

Turkish board starts to offer carcass meat to butchers for lower prices to ease price hikes

Turkey's Meat and Milk Board (ESK) started offering carcass meat for cheaper prices to butchers and delicatessens to ease increases in red meat prices as of March 27. 

The authority will supply a kilogram of meat to delicatessens for 20.5 Turkish Liras and 22.5 liras to butchers. VAT will be included in the base prices.
