Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday made it known that she will be donating half her salary to a special state fund to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday called on MPs of his ruling New Democracy party as well as ministers and deputy ministers to donate half their salary for next two months to a special fund to bolster the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Politicians must be "in the front line of solidarity," Mitsotakis said. 

A comprehensive package of measures to protect the economy from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic is to be unveiled on Monday by Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Labor and Social Affairs Minister Yiannis Vroutsis. 

The company Gonios runs, providing taxi services and importing cars for sale on the Greek market, has been hit badly by the pandemic, which threatens to stamp on the green shoots of Greek economic recovery after years of financial turmoil and biting austerity.

The nine countries supporting the proposal for a joint coronavirus group represent 57% of the euro area's GDP. This was stated by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

To emphasize the need for bold initiatives, he said the United States has announced a $ 2 trillion economic support package and has already lost 3 million jobs.

Despite the apparent evacuation of a makeshift camp set up by migrants at the border region between Greece and Turkey, forces will remain in the area to ensure that nobody attempts to break through the fence, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a teleconference with cabinet ministers on Friday to discuss the situation at the Evros region.

Nine European Union countries, including Greece, have requested in a letter to European Council President Charles Michel that the bloc issues a Eurobond to combat the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
