Turkish defense firm to help guard Uruguay's borders
A Turkish defense firm has provided Uruguay with materials to protect its borders, the company announced late Jan. 4.
Military electronics company Aselsan said the firm had delivered mobile border security systems to protect Uruguay?s land and sea borders.
In 2013, Aselsan won a $3.7 million contract to supply the mobile surveillance systems of the Uruguayan Army.
Germany Hosts 'Normandy Format' Meeting on Ukraine
A meeting at the level of political directors from the foreign ministries of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France will take place in Berlin on Monday.
The so-called ?Normandy format? meeting will discuss the progress in the implementation of the Minsk Accords and the possibilities for a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, TASS news agency reports.

FBI arrests suspect accused of shooting at LA police
A second suspect has been arrested for allegedly opening fire on two Los Angeles police, the FBI said Thursday, with the United States still on edge over the murders of two New York officers.
The alleged shooter, James Brooks, 19, was arrested Wednesady in Las Vegas, the FBI said in a statement.
Migrant ship in distress near Corfu: coastguard
A freighter with hundreds of migrants on board issued a distress signal on Dec. 30 while sailing northwest of the Greek island of Corfu, the Greek coastguard said.
A coastguard source said the Moldovan-flagged ship Blue Sky M had some 400 migrants on board and that a Greek navy frigate and a rescue helicopters had been dispatched to the area.

Police in Agrinio collar pharmacy robbers
Police in Agrinio, western Greece, have arrested two suspects, aged 33 and 32, for stealing more than 1,700 pills after breaking into a pharmacy.
The two suspects also stole 50 euros from the cashier, police said.
During a search at the house of the 33-year-old, police found 808 tablets, a number of which had been taken from the store on Tuesday.

US Police Kills Another Black Man
An 18-year-old black teenager has been fatally shot by police at a gas station in a suburb of St Louis, Missouri, reports The Guardian, quoting police and local media.
The incident took place near where unarmed teenager Michael Brown was killed by a white officer in August.

An 18-year-old black teenager was shot and killed by police at a gas station late on Dec. 23 in a St. Louis suburb near where unarmed teen Michael Brown was killed by a white officer in August, police and local media said.
A live video feed showed the gas station cordoned off by yellow tape and lined by police officers, with bystanders shouting at them in a tense standoff.
North Korea's Internet links restored amid US hacking dispute
North Korea, at the center of a confrontation with the United States over the hacking of Sony Pictures, experienced a complete Internet outage for hours before links were restored on Dec. 23, a U.S. company that monitors Internet infrastructure said.
