The caretaker cabinet of Bulgaria has nominated Ekaterina Zaharieva and Julian Popov as the country's candidates for the position of European Commissioner. The decision was made during a meeting of the caretaker government held today.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has initiated consultations with parliamentary parties as he considers his options for appointing a caretaker prime minister and scheduling early elections. "We Continue the Change" (WCC) has convened its National Council to deliberate on whether to accept the proposal from "Democratic Bulgaria" to jointly attempt to form a government with the second mandate.

The coalition "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) has declined an invitation from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) to engage in negotiations for forming a government with the second mandate.

The National Assembly is currently discussing and voting on the proposed cabinet by GERB, led by Prime Minister candidate Rosen Zhelyazkov. According to the Constitution, laws and other acts must be adopted with a majority of more than half of the present representatives. With 240 deputies registered, 121 "yes" votes are required to elect the prime minister proposed by GERB.
