The Turkish Opera and Ballet will stage Puccini's classic Madama Butterfly next week in Antalya, on the Turkish Mediterranean.

The Greek National Opera inaugurates its 2019-20 season with Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula," in a grand co-production with the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House. Directed by Marco Arturo Marelli, who sets the action in a sanatorium, the production is conducted by Philippe Auguin, with Agathangelos Georgakatos leading the chorus, and costumes designed by Dagmar Niefind.

Opera star Placido Domingo resigned Oct. 2 as general director of the Los Angeles Opera and withdrew from all future performances, following multiple allegations from women who say the legendary tenor sexually harassed them there and at opera companies around the country over a period of decades.

An Italian opera conductor settled in Turkey for over three decades says the Turkish audience is receptive.     

More people watched operas and ballets in Turkey during the 2017-2018 season, according to new data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) measuring attendance and performances of musical productions.

A group of farmers from the village of Ilia, near Karditsa, central Greece, who have managed to get their organic tomatoes onto the shelves of sought-after stores in Europe and the US, attribute the thriving of their produce to a musical diet including the German composer Richard Wagner.

The Greek National Opera presents a revival by Rory Fazan of a Royal Opera House production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra," which was first staged in London on November 12, 1991. Directed by the legendary Elijah Moshinsky, that production was inspired by the art and architecture of Renaissance. For the revival, Fazan works with set designer Michael Yeargan and costume designer Peter J.

George Petrou conducts the Athens State Orchestra in a classical gala at the Athens Concert Hall on Sunday, December 30, with arias and duets from popular operas sung by soprano Vassia Alati and baritone Tassis Christoyannis, followed by Viennese waltzes and operettas by Strauss and Lehar. Tickets range from 16 to 60 euros and the show starts at 8.30 p.m.

The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) will present a Vienna-themed concert for the New Year, performing a program made up of works by famous Austrian composer Johann Strauss. The concert will take place on Dec 27 at Zorlu PSM and on Jan 3 and 5, 2019 at the Kadıköy Süreyya Opera.
