Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has written a letter to Theresa May formally requesting a second Scottish independence referendum, raising a number of legal questions about whether and how it can and will be held.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told a German newspaper the European Union should take a tough stance in negotiations with Britain over its exit from the bloc after more than 40 years of membership, Reuters reported.

The British government will set out plans on Thursday to convert European Union laws into domestic legislation to give "businesses, workers and consumers the certainty they need" as Britain exits the bloc, Reuters reported.
