Reactions to the 2021–2022 Russo-Ukrainian crisis

The European Commission will meet on June 16 to give its fast-tracked opinion on Ukraine's bid for EU candidacy, a step closer to membership for the country a day after the bloc's most powerful leaders visited Kyiv as it battles Russia's invasion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's new warning to the West against sending longer-range rocket systems to Ukraine came as his forces claimed to have destroyed Western military supplies in their first such airstrikes on Ukraine's capital in more than a month.

Putin said that Russia will point at new targets if long-range missiles are delivered to Ukraine.
"In the case of delivering long-range missiles to Ukraine, the Russian Federation will draw conclusions and target objects that have not been targeted yet," Putin said.

The ambassadors of the member states agreed on the text of the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which should enter into force today, after being published in the EU Official Gazette, in which Patriarch Kirill of Moscow will be exempted at Hungary's request.
Sanctions are also being imposed by the United States, which has affected 17 people.

The Biden administration says it will send Ukraine a small number of high-tech, medium-range rocket systems, a critical weapon that Ukrainian leaders have been begging for as they struggle to stall Russian progress in the Donbas region.

French President Emmanuel Macron said today, after the agreement of the leaders of the European Union on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, that additional sanctions should not be written off in the coming weeks, Reuters reported.

They called on him for serious direct negotiations with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
Putin told the two leaders that the delivery of weapons to Ukraine was dangerous, warning of "the risks of further destabilization of the situation and worsening of the humanitarian crisis," the Kremlin said.

The U.S. administration intends to do that by sending advanced, long-range missile systems, which are now the main request of Ukrainian officials, several unnamed officials said.
The administration is considering sending the system as part of a larger package of military and security aid to Ukraine, which could be revealed next week, CNN reported.

Russian forces have shelled more than 40 cities in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, the Ukrainian military said, threatening to close the last major escape route for trapped civilians on their four-month invasion. In his traditional evening video address, President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine will not cede its territory to Russia.
