The government has significantly reduced the level of electricity bill subsidization for February, given the considerable decline in international natural gas rates, which have slashed the cost of electricity production.

Greece's power suppliers have announced significantly reduced electricity tariffs for February, with Public Power Corporation (PPC) saying that its rate is down 57-64% compared to January. 

Greece recorded one of the cheapest retail electricity prices in Europe in December noted Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas in a statement regarding the figures for the Household Energy Price Index throughout Europe.

The measures include a cap on electricity producers’ profits that would raise 140 billion euros

Ljubljana – The National Assembly unanimously endorsed on Wednesday two pieces of legislation that will provide emergency cost-of-living aid to the most vulnerable population groups and to businesses hit hard by high gas and electricity prices.

Brussels – Following a meeting of the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council, where more ambitious green energy and energy efficiency targets were endorsed, Infrastructure Minister Bojan Kumer noted on Monday that EU member states had shown a high degree of unity in approving the general approach for the two most important Fit for 55 directives.

The state subsidies that the government will give to households and businesses for the payment of electricity bills will be around at the same levels as in April.

The Turkish government is working on arrangements to reduce electricity bills some 25 percent for businesses, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.

"A multiple-grade tariff will be brought for small businesses. A discount of 25 percent is being considered for the low-consumption grade," he told a private broadcaster on Feb. 17.

Authorities are putting the final touches on work to ease the burden of electricity bills on households and businesses.

Government officials are devising a plan with different options, expected to be submitted to the cabinet soon.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez will meet with representatives of electricity distribution companies in the afternoon today.

The main topic of the meeting will be investments that should be made to protect households against disruptions caused by natural disasters.
