Suspects in Athens rampage released from detention

Twelve of the 15 suspects detained over the a rampage in downtown Athens late on Thursday were freed on Friday, as police did not find any incriminating evidence.
The other three people were foreign nationals who were not involved in the rioting but remained detained because they did not hold legal residence permits.

Self-styled anarchists go on rampage in downtown Athens

A group of about 30 self-styled anarchists wielding clubs smashed shop windows at more than a dozen stores in downtown Athens late on Thursday.
According to reports, the vandals had been gathered at the campus of Athens Law School before heading out on their rampage on Voukourestiou and Valaoritou streets.

Prison council to rule on jailed terrorist's furlough

A prison council will convene at the courthouse of Volos on Thursday to decide on whether to reverse a decision not to grant a new furlough to a convicted terrorist.
Dimitris Koufodinas, who is serving 11 life sentences for a series of assassinations, has been in the hospital following a five-day hunger strike over prison authorities' refusal to grant him temporary leave.

Molotov cocktails thrown at Exarchia police station

Hooded youths attacked Exarchia police station on Tuesday night throwing two Molotov cocktails at the building, the latest episode in a spate of unrest in the central Athens district often dubbed an anarchist stronghold.
No injuries were reported and the fire was quickly put out. Police searched the neighborhood for suspects but no arrests were reported.

Greek far-left convicted terrorist in hospital after hunger strike

Greek officials say a far-left Greek terrorist serving 11 life terms for a string of assassinations is in the hospital following a five-day hunger strike over prison authorities' refusal to grant him temporary leave.
Dimitris Koufodinas, 61, was being treated in the central town of Volos Tuesday, health officials said.

Koufodinas to go on hunger strike over furlough

Dimitris Koufodinas, the convicted hitman of the November 17 terrorist group, has announced he will go on a hunger strike after his request for a fresh furlough was rejected for a second time by a prosecutor.
Following the prosecutor's rejection Thursday, Koufodinas will appeal to a council of judges, his lawyer Ioanna Kourtovik said.

Application by convicted N17 hitman for seventh furlough rejected

A council of judges in Volos, central Greece, on Wednesday turned down a request by convicted November 17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas for a seventh furlough in just over a year.
Koufodinas, who was handed 11 life sentences for his role in N17 in 2003, had applied for a four-day furlough starting on February 28, less than a month after enjoying a six-day leave.
