Local authorities to assume oversight of risky quad bikes

The circulation of all terrain vehicles (ATV) or quad bikes, which have become increasingly popular in summer holiday destinations but are often involved in accidents, is to henceforth be monitored by local authorities, according to a Transport Ministry decision that was made public on Tuesday.

New boutique hotel opens in Rhodes

Thomas Cook has just opened a new urban boutique hotel, Cook's Club City Beach Rhodes, in the Old City of Rhodes.
The 18-room hotel on the largest of the Dodecanese islands is the eighth of the Cook's Club brand and follows recent openings in Bulgaria, Egypt, Spain and Turkey.
The collection's first hotel opened on Crete in 2018.

Numbers of German tourists decline

A recession at home, combined with Greek hotels' loss of competitiveness, due to their being overburdened by taxation, and the recovery of destinations such as Egypt and Turkey, has led to a drop in the number of German tourists this year.
Reservations by Germans on Crete were down 6 percent in July compared to the same month last year, while those in Rhodes dropped 5 percent.

German tourist found dead on Rhodes

Police on Rhodes are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old German tourist whose body was found near the village of Lardos, not far from a country road, on Friday morning.
The 28-year-old was reported missing on Tuesday by his 29-year-old girlfriend, with whom the man had been vacationing on the island.

Voters taken by warship to Kastellorizo

Residents of the island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese who vote on Kastellorizo were transferred to the remote island on Sunday aboard a Navy vessel.

A Navy warship conducted two trips - one in the morning and one in the early afternoon - from Rhodes to Kastellorizo to transfer some 80 voters to the remote island.

Hellenic Coast Guard vessels assisted in the transfer.
